JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will honor His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the UN’s Humanitarian Leader title during the 42nd OIC session to be held in Kuwait tomorrow and the day after, the OIC announced yesterday. HH the Amir will deliver a speech at the session’s opening, while First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Sabah will head the meeting, the OIC said in a statement. Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir and Secretary General of the organization Eyad Madani will also perform speeches in the opening session, the statement notes. The 42nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers entitled “Joint Vision in Promoting Tolerance and Rejecting Terrorism” will focus on the current conflicts in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Palestine, as well as fighting terrorism and Islamophobia, the OIC said. Meanwhile, the statement noted that the meeting will also discuss conflicts in the Islamic world and a number of different parts of social, economic, cultural, techno- logical and humanitarian topics. Moreover, the session’s agenda includes the condi- tions of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, the peace process in Mali and the current situation in Somalia, including develop- ment and reconstruction in the country, OIC added. Separately, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Malaysia Saad Al-Asousi met with chairman of the protocol department in the Malaysian Foreign Ministry to prepare for the 42nd OIC session. The two sides dis- cussed the participation of Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hanifah Aman in the event, which will focus on fighting ter- rorism and the current situation in Yemen, Libya, Syria and Palestine, Asousi said yes- terday. He also noted that the special envoy of the OIC Secretary General to Myanmar Hamid Al-Bar will also be present at the event to discuss the conditions of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. — KUNA KUWAIT: The cabinet yesterday condemned a sui- cide attack that targeted a mosque east of Saudi Arabia on Friday, leaving scores of people dead or injured. Some 21 people were killed and more than 80 wounded when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden belt at a mosque packed with wor- shippers in the eastern province of Al-Qatif. The cabinet’s weekly meeting, held at Seif Palace under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah offered condolences to the relatives of the victims, wishing the wounded speed recovery. It also reiterated Kuwait’s condemnation and rejection of all forms of terrorism, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said. At the outset of the meeting, the ministers eulogized former National Assembly speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi who died on Thursday at the age of 75. They stressed Al-Khorafi’s personal exploits and the great services he rendered to the country over the years. Born in 1940, Khorafi came from a locally high- ly-revered family of businessmen and politicians. He was voted an MP nine times and a National Assembly speaker from 1999 to 2011. He was also appointed as Minister of Finance and Economy in 1985-1990. New minister HH the Premier then welcomed newly-appoint- ed Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr. Yousef Mohammad Abdullah Al-Ali wishing him the best, serving the interests of the people and the nation. The cabinet was then notified of a message from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon inviting HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah to attend the treaty signature/ratification ceremony to be organized by the Treaty Section, New York, 28 September-1 October, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah added. The event aims at encouraging wider participation in the multilateral treaties deposited with him (over 500 treaties) and their speedier entry into force. The meeting was then informed about a mes- sage from Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to HH the Amir inviting him to attend the UN Third International Conference on Financing for Development, Addis Ababa, July 13- 16, 2015. University City Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Bader Hamad Al-Essa briefed the meeting on the progress of work at the Sabah Al Salem University City in Ashedadiya. This was followed by detailed account on the project by Director of Kuwait University Construction Program (KUCP) Dr Qutaiba Abdul- Razzaq Razouki who said that the University City has been built on a total area of six million square meters. It is divided into two parts, the first is the general campus that will embrace all Kuwait University scientific and humanities colleges. The other will include all the medical ones. Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Subaih Al-Subaih briefed the meeting on the monthly follow-up report of the strategic projects being carried out nationwide, as well as the leg- islative requirements for the national develop- ment plan, 2015-2016. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Saud Al-Nasser Al- Sabah Diplomatic Institute and Foreign Service Institute of Argentina. At an award ceremony celebrating the completion of this project, Simon Williams, Director of UK Trade and Investment, stated: “I am pleased to be here today to celebrate the suc- cessful collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works and the UK’s Transport Research Laboratory, which was established over 80 years ago. In addition to their work with the MPW, I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Interior (MOI) have awarded TRL a new project which would utilize the latest technology for the collection, storage, analysis and reporting of crash data. This will support the MoI in developing effec- tive policy and approaches to improve road safety in Kuwait.
