network. – Each RTU on the network has a processor,

power supply and optonet module which

completely supports peer to peer

communications between all nodes on thenetwork.

– Disconnect link with test point on each side

– Removable plug connected termination board

which allows removal of the logic card without

disconnecting the field wiring.

C50 Start Up• On start up

– C50 runs boot strap program located in

EPROM or MPM

–

Test RAM and MPM hardware – check if valid flash card installed in the

socket

– If valid, reads C50 firmware and load into

RAM

from Flash Card

–

Built run-time database in RAM – All errors during the start up or initialization

process is saved and can be examined by tool.

– I/O scanning will not start. All LEDs will remain

red

• Entering sense mode

– Why?

• To load a different configuration file or firmware –

How?• There are 2 methods

– First method

» Remove flash card

» Reset C50» When 3rd LED light up and all LEDs

are extinguished, reinsert flash card

» Momentarily the sense reset sw. to the position (up)

until 3rd LED is estinguished.

– Second method

» Reset C50» Immediately hold sense-reset switch until 3rd LED

lid and all others are off.

» Press sense-reset switch until 3rd LED goes off.

– C50 reset can occur from:- • Power Up

• Reset Button

• Reboot command from tool• WDT timer on MPM module time out - cause

by incorrect or corrupted firmware orconfiguration file.

•

Software exception on the MPM - cause bysoftware fault.

C50 Diagnostics (TOOL) Program

– provides facilities to upload & download firmware

files, configuration files & calculation files to the

C50 flash memory card

– 2 file systems:• FFS1 (Flash File System 1) eprom p/n 1037377 (MPM)

• FFS2 (Flash File System 2) eprom p/n 1037461 (MPM)

– TOOL Version Pre 11.4

– TOOL Version 11.4 and later

Flash Card Removal/Insertion

– operation of the FFS is monitored by 2 LED indicators( FFS is inhibited whenever LED 3 is ON)

• To remove: hold reset switch up until LED 3 comes on. The

flash card may now be ejected.

•

To insert: insert card when LED 3 is on & then hold the resetswitch up until LED 3 turns OFF

– Removal or insertion should only be done when LED 3

is ON.• LED 3 (LSB 5) indicates the state of the FFS

• LED 4 (LSB 4) indicates that a write operation is in progress
