NATIONAL PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATIONEducation in Malaysia is an on-going effort towards developing the potential of individuals in a holistic andintegrated manner, so as to produce individuals who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physicallybalanced and harmonious based on a firm belief in and devotion to God. Such an effort is designed to produceMalaysian citizens who are knowledgeable and competent, who possess high moral standards and who areresponsible and capable of achieving a high level of personal well being as well as being able to contribute to theharmony and betterment of the family, society and the nation at large.

HISTORY OF KBSM1. It was implemented for language subjects in 1988. 3. Later on, it was implemented for all subjects in 1989.4. KBSM is the continuation of KBSR that is based on 3M (reading, writing and calculating)

THE AIM OF KBSM1. The aim of KBSM is similar to KBSR that is to expand the individual potential as a whole, balance, and integrated and it covers the aspect of intellectual, spiritual, emotion, and physical to produce a well balance, harmonious, and a good moral values.2. It is also designed to achieve the aims of the national education philosophy.

Objective of KBSMTo achieve a life-long education.To enable students to master communication skills in real world situation, and to expand their way of thinking.KBSM stresses on problem solving skills in every life aspects.KBSM is in line with government policies to inculcate the integrity among Malaysian citizen.

5. To cater students needs to face life challenges so that they will be able to compete with others globally.6. To expand ICT skills, creative thinking skills and also knowledge on time management .

CHARACTERISTIC OF KBSMIt focusses on life-long education and elements of JERI.It highlights the importance of moral valuesIt highlights the importance of mastering Bahasa Malaysia.

STRUCTURE OF KBSM1. Focus is given to the integration of curriculum, co-curriculum, and school culture.2. KBSM includes :-a ) Communication field which is covered by language subjects and mathematics.b) Human development and environment field which is covered by religion, moral, and social science subjects.c) Self development field which is covered by art subjects, physical education and curriculum activities.

UPPER SECONDARY: FORM 4-5

MODIFICATION OF KBSM SYLLABUS1. KBSM was re-check in 1990 to fulfill Wawasan 2020; globalization, ICT and communication.2. The concept of Smart school was introduced in 1996.3. In 1999, the Smart school was implemented in 90 schools in Malaysia.

4. Secondary public examination was also recheck. 5. After PMR, students will continue their study whether in science stream or art stream in daily school, boarding / Islamic school based on their interest.6. Starting from January 2003, mathematics and science in standard 1 , form 1 and lower 6 were taught in English language.

7. The current trend in KBSM is the introduction of science subject to standard one and the curriculum was modified again stage by stage from 2003.8. The focus is more towards the use of science and technology as well as innovative methods in p&p.
