Background and activities Albukhary Foundation

Albukhary’s Key Focus:

Education – The Albukhary Foundation acknowledges the importance of knowledge for society to advance. Its primary focus is education as a means to empower the poor as well as forge greater understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim communities

Albukhary Foundation is a private charity established to build a better world through wide-ranging social welfare, education and cultural initiatives.

Established in March 5, 1996 and is located at 30, Jalan Pahang Barat, 53000WP Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

4.1Ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and Goal-4 effective learning outcomes.

4.4Substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university

Objectives and daily activities Albukhary Foundation

Four exchange participants will work together on the following activities:

1. Daily engagement with orphanage children

• After school hours, there will be a variety of activities to be carried out with the children.

• These activities are aimed to entice the children to use English.

• Participants would need to be creative to come up with fun and interactive activities such as story telling, singing or dancing.

• There are 32 children at the orphanage ranging from 11 to 17 years old. Some of them have a low proficiency in english, thus participants are required to be fluent in english and have good communication skills.

2. Playing sports with the children

• Participants need to be able to attract the children to play with them while using English as the main language.

• Preferred games are futsal, cricket, volleyball and netball.

• The games may be played during the afternoon at 3-5pm on weekdays.

3. Drama presentation with the children

• Participants will direct a short play involving the children, this will allow them to practice their english.

• The short play may range from 5 to 10 minutes.

• Assisting warden in looking after the children during emergencies.

Timeline of project

• The project takes place from 12 July until 6 September 2016.

• The project duration is 8 weeks• The EPs is required to work from 9 a.m.

To 10 p.m.• EPs work from Sundays to Thursdays.• Friday and Saturday are public holidays• 1 hour lunch break• Project is in Kedah, transportation to

the orphanage and accomodation will be provided.

Accommodation

• Hostel rooms with bathroom within the orphanage premise

• Limited Internet Access is provided• Meals are also provided (about 4 to

5 times a day)• Public transport is easily accessible• (taxis and buses)• Arrival & departure support will be

provided by AIESEC Taylor’sUniversity

Overview area

The project is located in a small town called Alor Setar, Kedah. Accommodation is provided at project location.

Restaurants and food stalls are easy to find within walking distance.

Giant Hypermarket is only 4 minutes away, walking distance.

Activities for preparation, development, and fun

Incoming Preparation Seminar:AIESEC will make sure EPs will have abetter understanding about the projectand life in Kuala Lumpur

One Day City Tour:One day city tour for EPs to explore andembrace the Malaysian culture

Global Village:It serve as a platform for EPs to showcasetheir country and culture to locals

Farewell:A space will be created where EPs areable to share their exchange experiences.EPs will be given certificate and goodiesbag
