(6) Sinopsis kursus/ Course synopsis:

This course emphasizes fundamental concepts and problem-solving techniques. Topics to be covered include fluid properties, static and kinematics, control volume analysis, momentum analysis of flow system, dimensional analysis, internal flows (pipe flows), differential analysis, and external flows (lift and drag).

(7) ) Hasil Pembelajaran / Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, students are expected to be:

1. Ability to demonstrate the essential parameters describing a fluid system and recognize the common devices used in measuring pressure and flow rates and turbo machineries.

2. Ability to calculate pressures, forces, and stability in static fluid systems and distinguish the link between conserved quantities and the equations of fluid mechanics.

3. Ability to calculate control volumes and surfaces for developing the equations of fluid mechanics.

(8) Senarai eksperimen yang mungkin/ List of possible experiments:

Exp 1 : Flow rate measurement – operation and characteristic of three different basic types of

flow meter Exp 2 : Flow measurement – using differential head

Exp 3 : Determination of loss coefficient when fluid flows through 90 degree elbow. Exp 4 : Measurement of Reynolds Number at different types of flow. Exp 5 : Measurement of Reynolds Number by the upper and lower critical velocities. Exp 6 : Measurement of hydrostatic pressure on plain surface. Exp 7 : Determination of impact of water jet using different types of vanes.

Exp 8 : Determination of fluid friction in smooth bore pipe. Exp 9 : Determination of fluid friction in roughened pipe. Exp 10 : Measurement of head loss due to pipe friction. Exp 11 : Measurement of head loss due to pipe fittings.

Exp 12 : Effect of pump configuration on flow rate using single vs. series pump. Exp 13 : Effect of pump configuration on flow rate using single vs. parallel pump. Exp 14 : Effect of pump configuration on flow rate using series vs. series pump.
