MJIIT JAPAN DAY 2017
Japan Day is an annual event organized by MJIIT in order to introduce the Japanese culture, values and ethics among staff
and students as well as to promote academic programs offered
at MJIIT to pre and postgraduate candidates on 9th November 2017. The opening ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri
Idris Bin Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education.
The event this year is special as it commemorates the 60th
anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Government of Malaysia and the Government of Japan. Also held in
conjunction with Japan Day 2017 is the Japan Graduates Symposium (JGS), which is a continuation of the series of programs done by Malaysian associations in
Japan since 2012.
JGS2017 is organized simultaneously during Japan Day 2017 at
MJIIT, UTM Kuala Lumpur and the discussion focuses on the way forward for Malaysia Japan collaboration with stakeholders including policy
makers, industries and the alumni. Through the Japan Graduates Symposium, MJIIT becomes the platform for graduates from Japan,
representatives from alumni, representatives from interested parties to
work together as joint organizing committee members in annually organizing a symposium for common interests and also become the main
event in Malaysia for information sharing, exchange of insights, networking and discussion between graduates from Japan and related
government agencies, higher education institutions and industries.
UTM is honored to have a sponsorship RM 6,000.00 from
Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. for both programs, Japan Day 2017 and Japan Graduates Symposium, JGS2017 while, a Toyota Camry
Hybrid will be handed over by UMW Toyota to UTM to facilitate
research efforts and strengthen education in MJIIT. A signing ceremony for Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and
Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was held also during the event. The MoU and MoA was between MJIIT and 3 other parties which
are DAIKIN Research & Development (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., ROHM-
Wako Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. And PPKS Ilmu Sdn. Bhd.
The cultural and social crossing activities between Malaysia and Japan featured Japanese martial arts performances by members of the
Japanese martial arts team of 65 representatives from the Rising Sun
Country itself. Their involvement is fully supported by the Japan Budo Association. Among the martial arts performances include sumo, aikido

JACTIM Foundation continued to support MJIIT in 2017 through Innovation Products
Competition, which aims to develop human resources
and promote research activities in Malaysia. In order to enhance creativity and research capability of young
researchers in view of sustainable development, MJIIT organized the competition whereby the idea
expressed by the students could be further explored in collaboration with Japanese industries.
A total of RM50,000 has been contributed towards competitions in providing awards for
students who performed well and their respective laboratories. A mock cheque was presented during
MJIIT Japan Day opening ceremony on 9th November
2018. The total contribution from JACTIM and JACTIM Foundation to MJIIT since 2011 to 2017 is
RM345,000 including RM50,000 worth of educational books related to Japanese science, technology and industry for the library of MJIIT.
The Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM) was founded in 1983 with the
objective of promoting economic relations between Malaysia and Japan, in the areas of international
trading, commerce, industries and investment while JACTIM Foundation was established in 1994 for the purpose of contributing to Malaysian cultural, social, and educational development, and to help strengthen
the mutual understanding and friendship between Malaysia and Japan.

On 9th November 2017, MJIIT Japanese Language & Culture Unit organized MJIIT 2nd Japanese Language Speech Contest & Origami Art Contest. The event sponsored by Professionals’ Net Work in
Advanced Instrumentation Society (PAI-NET) and MJIIT was held at Tan Sri Ainuddin Wahid Hall. The
contests were open to all MJIIT undergraduate and postgraduate students and high school students.
For the speech contest, participants were given 3 minutes to present their speech in front of judges on any topics preferred by them. There were 15 participants and Mr. Muhammad Izzaire Bin Hassan has won
the first prize courtesy of Professionals’ Net Work in Advanced Instrumentation Society (PAI-NET).
While for the origami art contest, participants must sign-up in team maximum 4 persons per
group. The theme were Malaysia. However, because of the overwhelming responses, a preliminary contest was held from 30th Oct to 5th Nov 2017 through a voting system by the public on MJIIT Facebook
Account and 10 entries with the most votes had competed in the final and all winners were selected by the appointed judges on the contest day. A team led by Mr. Tay Yie Hang has won the first prize courtesy
of MJIIT.

In conjunction with MJIIT Japan Day 2017 and commemorates the 60th
anniversary of the diplomatic relations
between the Government of Malaysia and the Government of Japan, Nippon
Budokan Foundat ion organized Japanese Budo Demonstration on 9th
November 2017 at Tan Sri Ainuddin Wahid Hall. The program format was
seminar, demonstration and workshop.
Officiated by Prof. Dr. Akio
Makishima, Deputy Dean (Liaison & Internationalization), the seminar titled
The Spirit of Budo presented by Yagyū
Kōichi Toshinobu continued. The martial arts that was demonstrated were
Kyudo, Yagyu Shinkage-Ryu Heiho Kenjutsu, Aikido, Shorinji Kempo,
Jukendo, Karatedo, Naginata, Suio-Ryu Iai Kenpo, Judo, Kendo, Okinawa
Gojyu-Ryu Bujyutsu, and Sumo. The
event closed by Prof. Datin Dr. Rubiyah binti Yusof, Dean of MJIIT.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
THE TEAM
On 15th December 2017, a farewell for Mr. Yusuke Tanaka was held. Mr.
Tanaka was assigned as volunteer in
teaching Japanese Language for 2 years at MJIIT. It was also an event to
express our appreciation to Ms. Norshakira Binti Shaariat for being with
us until December. Their commitment and contribution are highly appreciated.

A discussion with Ambassador Miyagawa on various academic, students and staff
engagement, industrial linkages and many other important segments of MJIIT’s progress and success.
