THE COMMON PROBLEMS OF WASTEWATER

HOW OXYNOL-S HELPS TO OVERCOME THESE PROBLEMS:
Oxynol Malaysia Sdn Bhd developed after extensive research work an ideal, eco-friendly highly
effective and efficient multi-component formulation OXYNOL-S based on HYDROGEN
PEROXIDE and SILVER by a special process of mixing the two components.
The oxidizing agent Hydrogen Peroxide which is bound by the stabilizing agents and silver
ions to form a complex solution ensures synergistic germicidal and powerful oxidizingaction.
HOW OXYNOL-S WORKS IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS:
Odour control:-
Oxidizes hydrogen sulfide, mercaptan, ammonia, amines and aldehydes. H2O2 may be applieddirectly to aqueous wastes containing these odourants, or to wet scrubbers used to remove them
from airstreams. If the odours are the result of biological activity, OXYNOL-S may instead be
added as a preventative to eliminate the anoxic conditions which favour the generation of odours.
BOD/COD improvement:-
Oxidizes both organic and inorganic pollutants which contribute to BOD and COD -- catalytic
H2O2 may be needed to oxidize the more resistant substances. H 2O2 may also affect BOD/COD
improvement by enhancing the performance of other processes.
Inorganic oxidation:-
Oxidizes cyanides, NOx/SOx, nitrites, hydrazine, carbonyl sulfide, and other reduced sulfurcompounds mentioned above (odour/corrosion control).
Organic oxidation:-
Hydrolyzes formaldehyde, carbon disulfide, carbohydrates, organo-phosphorus and nitrogen
compounds, and various water-soluble polymers; and (with catalysis) destroys phenols, BTEX
pesticides, solvents, plasticizers, chelants, and virtually any other organic requiring treatment.

Toxicity reduction/Biodegradability improvement:-
OXYNOL-S oxidizes simpler to complex organics into smaller, less toxic and more biodegradablefragments.
Air Flotation:-
Releases evenly dispersed micro bubbles which entrain emulsified fats, oils and greases to enhance
their removal in air flotation units and grease traps.
Sludge Bulking:-
Controls sludge bulking in Secondary settling tank due to filamentous bacteria. It breaks thefilaments to smaller cells. Improves sludge settling in SST. Provides DO in both aeration tank and
SST thus improving the overall efficiency.
Carbon adsorption:-
Enhances the adsorption of many pollutants while providing dissolved oxygen to support
biologically-active carbon beds (improving removal efficiencies still further).
OXYNOL-S PROPERTIES:
Powerful:-
The main component of OXYNOL-S is H2O2 , the most powerful oxidizers known stronger than
several oxidizing agents. The formation of Hydroxyl radical in OXYNOL-S is accelerated by
presence of Silver ion which ensures sustained oxidation of organic compounds and gives itsadvantage over H2O2.
Safe:-
Protects the environment and free from the problems of gaseous release or chemical residues that
are associated with other chemical oxidants.
Versatile:-
OXYNOL-S find diverse and wide applications like it can inhibit microbial growth (as in thebiofouling of water circuits) and encourage microbial growth (as in the bioremediation of
contaminated groundwater and soils).

Selective:-
OXYNOL-S can be selectively used for increasing dissolved oxygen to enhance reduction ofCOD, BOD in aeration tank, biofilters and improve settling in secondary settling tanks. OXYNOL-
S selectively improves the overall efficiency of biological treatment plant.
OTHER ADVANTAGES
Ecofriendly- It is totally biodegradable since it decomposes down to water and oxygen thus
leaving no trace elements.
Silver in minute quantity has a strong Oligo-dynamic action.
Chlorine free.
Non toxic, non mutagenic and non carcinogenic.
Does not react with other chemical compounds and does not change pH on addition to
water.
Effective over wide range of pH and does not give rise to any foaming on application.
Development of bacterial resistance does not occur.
Does not require any rinsing after application.
Effective against wide range of microorganisms including viruses.
Does not give rise to any skin mucous membrane or eye irritation on application in
prescribed dosages.
Has long lasting germicidal action.
MECHANISM OF GERMICIDAL ACTION.
The main targets of both hydrogen peroxide and silver present in the formulation are
proteins, enzymes and nucleic acids.
The anti microbial activity of H2O2 is due to breakdown of H2O2 to free hydroxyl radical
(HO*). This free radical has strong oxidation potential and strong penetration power. Theradical can attack membrane lipids, DNA, and other essential cell components and denature
them.
The presence of silver ion accelerates the decomposition of H2O2 to form strong oxidizing
radical. The synergistic antimicrobial activity of both H2O2 and silver ion in OXYNOL-S is much
greater than H2O2 and silver alone.

APPLICATION OF OXYNOL-S
OXYNOL-S applications span the range of possible media: air, water, wastewater, soils and
sludge. Depending on the objective, OXYNOL-S may be used either alone or in combination withother processes to enhance their performance.
DOSAGE:-
OXYNOL-S can be used in various dosages depending upon the application.
The dosage is calculated based on the system and the volume of wastewater to be treated. (Our
technical team can assist to decide the dosage and applications.)
20-30ppm for increasing efficiency of bioreactor.
4-5ppm per sulphide odour (1ppm of sulphide.)
5-10ppm for ammoniacal nitrogen.
20-30ppm for disinfection of treated wastewater.
3-5ppm for fumigation of air.
OXYNOL-S can be directly added to wastewater as a slug dose or continuously through dosing
pump.
PACKING:-
OXYNOL -S is available in various packing:
30kg, 35kg, 40kg and 50kg in HDPE containers.
STORAGE: store the product in room and away from sunlight

HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
HEALTH EFFECTS:
Swallowed: Corrosive. May cause gastric distension due to evolution of oxygen.
Eye: Extremely irritating and corrosive. May cause permanent eye damage if immediate first
aid action is not taken.
Skin: Moderate corrosive and irritant. May cause delayed chemical burns and transient
whitening of affected area.
Inhaled: Strong irritant.
FIRST AID:
Swallowed: Give water to drink. Do NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical attention without
delay.
Eye: Immediate irrigation with water. Continue for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention
without delay.
Skin: Wash contaminated skin with plenty of water. Remove ALL contaminated clothing.
Wash contaminated clothing before re-use. Seek medical advice if swelling, redness, blistering
or irritation occurs.
Inhaled: Remove from source of exposure. If required, seek medical attention.
ADVICE TO DOCTOR: Treat symptomatically.

Hands - wear PVC gauntlet type gloves.
Other - PVC apron, eyewash station, safety shower.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
Handling, Storage and Transport:
Store in upright, original vented container in accordance with local statutory requirements.
Store in accordance with applicable regulations or appropriate standards.
Transport in accordance with the requirements of the current Australian Code for the
Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail and the IMO Regulations for Sea Freight.
Stability:
Decomposes very slowly at ambient temperatures to give off oxygen.
Conditions to Avoid:
Keep away from heat, combustibles and other chemicals. Avoid contamination with any
materials. Do not return unused portion to original container.
Incompatibility:
Acids, alkalis, reducing agents, rust, transition metals and their compounds, resins, and
combustible materials.
SPILLS AND DISPOSAL:
Dilute with copious quantities of water (10:1).
Flush to drain with water.
Rinse container with water, deface all labels and puncture container prior to disposal.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards:
When subjected to heat from other materials will decompose to liberate oxygen. This may
cause other materials to burn more fiercely. Under confinement may cause pressure bursts
due to release of gases of decomposition. Due to strong oxidizing nature may cause
combustible materials to catch fire.
