BASSIM H. HAMEED School of Chemical Engineering Universiti Sains Malaysia Professor Dr. Bassim H. Hameed received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Salford, UK, in 1992. He is a professor at the School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He leads the Reaction Engineering & Adsorption (READ) research group. He has also been appointed as a Guest Professor at Yunan Minzu University, China for the period of 2014—2017. His research interest is in Reaction Engineering and Adsorption Technology, especially issues related to Energy and Environment. He has successfully supervised the works of 4 postdoctoral fellows, 12 Ph.D., 28 MSc students, and more than 70 final-year research projects to completion. He has secured more than RM 2.7 million in research funding from USM, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), and the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). He has achieved a milestone of 17 research grants as a principal investigator. To date, he has published more than 195 articles in ISI-indexed journals. More than 75% of these articles ranked in the top 15% in the field. He has also published 100 articles in other international and national journals and proceedings. Professor Bassim’s publications have been cited over 8,580 times (Scopus database), and 28 of these papers were cited more than 100 times each. He has an author h-index of 51, and an i10-index of 132. According to a recent report released by MOHE and the Malaysian Citation Centre in 2012, Professor Bassim is the top-cited Malaysian-based author in Engineering for the period of 2001—2010, with average citations of 27.26 per publication. Science Direct also reported that more than 15 of his articles were among the Top 25 Hottest Articles accessed in the period of 2007—2014. Professor Bassim has been included by Thomson Reuters in their prestigious list of Highly Cited Researchers 2014 according to the Essential Science Indicators SM and based on 10 years’ worth of citation data (January 1, 2003—October 31, 2013) from Web of Science®. Professor Bassim has been also listed in Thomson Reuters’s “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds 2014”. Professor Bassim’s research ability is well-respected both nationally and internationally given that he has garnered many awards in recognition of his research. He recently received the Minister of Education II from the Ministry of Education and the recognition of Outstanding Researcher in Malaysia in 2014. In the same year, he received the Vice Chancellor’s Hall of Fame special award. He was also a recipient of the Chancellor’s Hall of Fame awards for Excellence in Publication in the period of 2007—2013 because his works ranked in the top 15% of ISI-indexed journals.

He is also a recipient of three Hall of Fame awards for ResearchProducts in 2003 and 2004, as well as of USM Excellent AchievementAwards in 2007 and 2011. He received silver and bronze medals fromMOSTI, Malaysia, and ITEX in the same period for his research productsand innovations.

Professor Bassim currently serves as a reviewer for manyinternational journals that are published by prestigious publishers. Hehas reviewed more than 500 manuscripts. In 2014, he was awardedElsevier’s “Recognized Reviewer” Status.

He is actively involved in organizing academic training workshops,such as the “The Art of Writing Publishable Scientific Manuscript &beyond”. This workshop has been conducted more than 40 times andhas been attended by more than 1,000 university lecturers,postgraduate students, and researchers from more than 40 institutions,universities, industries, and research centers.
