Objective: One of the crucial Turbine Learning Process on how to start, run and shut down

including necessary gauge and meter monitoring the turbine engine system using appropriate

equipment I.A.W applicable manufacturer manual and assisted by an instructor or supervisor.

Reference:

1.  Engine Run Sheet

2.  Allison 250 C18 Turboshaft Maintenance Manual

Tools & Equipment:

1.  Allison 250 C18

2.  Battery Cart

3.  Ear Muff

4.  Overall / Jacket

5.  Safety Boots6.  Chock

7.  Engine Run Sheet

8.  A Fire Extinguisher

Procedures:

1)  Placing:

i.  Turbine engine mock up has been placed on engine test stand or designated

area for ground run.

ii.  The mock up has been lock using chain and chock

iii.  A person has been position and in charge of fire extinguisher in case of

emergency and

iv.  A battery cart has been plugged in.

Note: To prevent fuel starvation at engine start and to prevent engine damage due

to lack of lubricating oil at engine start, ensure that fuel and lubrication oil areavailable at the engine fuel and oil inlet ports.

Dry Cranking: 1) Master Switch ON

2) Starter Switch ON

3) The Ignition Switch is Set OFF Position

Dry Cranking is done in 30 second

2)  Inspection:

i.  Inspect for any discrepancies and missing part.

ii.  All reading on mock up gauge have been recorded on Engine Run Sheet .

3)  Starting:

i.  The Battery Cart has been switched  – On

ii.  The Master Switch has been switched  – On

iii.  The Cooling Fan Switch has been switched  – On

iv.  The Fuel Pump Switch has been switched  – On

v.  The Turbine Engine started :

Pushing the Starter Switch (Igniter) for a few seconds

  Pushing Idle Throttle Forward

vi.  At 58% N1 speed (Idle Throttle), the start switch and Ignition Switch have

been pressed to Cut OFF Starter and Ignition

vii.  The Engine should continue to Accelerate and Stabilize at 58% N1 speed

(IDLE)

viii.  Oil pressure should be at least 50psi

4)  Shutting Down:

i.  The N1 throttle lever has been placed to the ground idle (30%) position

ii.  The system has been stabilized at idle for two minutes

iii.  The N1 throttle lever has been moved to the fuel CUT  – OFF (0%) position

iv.  The test stand has been shut down

v.  All the switches on instrument panel have been turned OFF

Conclusion:

Turbine Ground Run required an experience person to runs the engine and monitor every

seconds of it, any careless action may eventually send the engine to major overhauling

whereby every component is costly.
