(KPOC) has announced that its shareholders have agreed to develop the Kebabangan (KBB) gas field located offshore Sabah.

“The KBB gas field is located in water depths of 100 to 400 meters and is part of the KBB Cluster Production Sharing Contract operated by KPOC. The project will include a 12-well, two-phase drilling campaign as well as the fabrication and installation of an integrated drilling/production platform with living quarters,” KPOC said.The integrated production platform would be located on the edge of the continental shelf in 140 metres of water, with a design rate of 825 million standard cubic feet per day of gas export capacity, and 80,000 stock tank barrels per day of oil export capacity. Oil and gas would be exported via 135 kilometres of pipelines to the Petronas Carigali – operated Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT); currently under construction at Kimanis, Sabah.“First production is expected at the end of 2014,” added KPOC.KPOC’s general manager Kannan Annamalai was saying, “ Our team is committed to delivering market leading performance in all aspects of the project with relentless focus on safety, quality, cost and schedule,”

Since the acquisition of Block SK10 in 1987 the project has been one of NOEX's key operations.JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia), NOEX's subsidiary acts as operator in the block and has been involved in the ongoing exploration and development of the block,and the production of natural gas from the block. The natural gas produced from the block, along with the natural gas produced from Block SK8, offshore Sarawak, which we acquired in 1989 is exported in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to various countries including Japan. In December 2007 and April 2008 respectively,we acquired onshore Block SK333 and offshore Block PM308A, where we are now conducting exploration activities.

In 2005, Tuas Power was awarded the international OHSAS 18001:1999 accreditation in recognition of our efforts in maintaining a safety andhealthy work environment for our employees at the power station.

A comprehensive review of the hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA) of all work processes and activities was carried out at Tuas Power Station in 2008. A Hazard Operability Study (HAZOP) was also conducted on a new gas compressor that was installed at the Fuel Gas Receiving Station to systematically identify and eliminate potential hazards.
