MYSORE PINJRAPOLE SOCIETY
First View of the Organization and the Project
Pinjrapole society is located under the foothills of Chamundi. It has a vast area of around 78
acres. The vicinity of the place is beautiful and it feels like we have gone very far from city.
We were very happy and excited to visit a place where animals are protected. We found out
that Pinjrapole is taking care of handicapped, injured, weak and abandoned animals, by
providing food, shelter and medical care. There were around 3500 cows. We found out that
they generate 20 percent of their revenue through selling cow dung, milk and few other goods
manufactured by them. The rest 80% of the revenue comes from donations. All expenditures
of Pinjrapolelooking after the animals, labor charge, fodder, maintenance etc are
sustained through donations. They do not receive any fund from the Government, accordingto Societys Secretary Shantilal Choradia. Pinjrapole Society is doing a silent and sacred
service to voiceless, innocent animals and in turn a utilitarian service to all without any profit.
Out of 3500 cows we found out that only 40 cows give milk and they had a separate place for
them. Every day 650-700 liters of milk is collected from healthy cows which are sold among
the members and the revenue collected is used for betterment of cows. Around 8 Lorries of
food comes every day for those animals. There was a visit by a doctor every day. They have
even constructed an emergency ward to render immediate treatment to severely sick animals.
.We also found few sick cows and amongst them one was very sick. Newly appointed
supervisor guided us through the place. He even took us to a temple and performed puja.
Their main aim is to protect the cows from slaughtering. They want the generations to come
by also get the taste of milk and thus want to protect cows. Whenever they come across a cowon streets or anywhere they bring them to their society and take good care of them. There is
one gobar gas plant too at the capacity of 80 ChMs. All employee quarters have been
provided with the Gobar gas facility for cooking. Cutting down trees for fuel has been totally
prevented thus protecting the environment. One lady was preparing for ark and they showed
us that. They also showed us a pain relief balm manufactured by them. They do not market
the product, visitors if interested will buy. Whenever police seize slaughter houses or find
animals on road they bring it to Pinjrapole society. They have also opened a new branch at
Mysore because of the increasing number of animals.
We will have to help them with cleaning of the area. We will also render our services by
feeding the animals. We will try to implement managerial theories which we have learnt into
their organisation to help them function in a better way.

This Society is in the front line of prominent volunteer animal-care societies in the whole of
South India, taking care of seized-animals being transported illegally to slaughter-houses
situated in Kerala and Tamilnadu. The hapless animals rescued and recovered with assistance
of the Law-Authorities and handed-over to the Society for feeding and taking care, under
Court-orders. The statistics of animals seized and saved by various police stations and
handed over since year 1999 have been reproduced here under for information. Till-date the
society has been able to protect and take good care of thousands of animals, a worthy
humanitarian duty, providing an excellent opportunity to those seeking PUNYA. At present
the number of animals boarded in the society is 3780. In addition to these aged, weak,
helpless and injured seized animals, more are brought in large numbers by residents of nearby
villages and by the organisers of similar animal-care units.

and clinic. Some land is utilized for the storage of dry hay, gobar-gas plant, quarters for theresident workers, wells and water storage-tanks with the remaining land set aside for free
movement of the animals. The entire land has a 6 ft. tall brick and mortar fence for protection
against predators.
A second branch was established to accommodate more animals, in year 2005 near Udbooru-
gate, situated about 10 km away from Mysore. The land with an area of 36 acres is popularly
known as Ahimsa Dham. Large sheds for animals, office-room, a Vet. Hospital, a Sri
Krishna Temple, a water-hut, quarters for workers, etc., have been put-up in the compounded
