Dear Serena,

parents, a group of good friends and I score in the school examinations. My good friends

are from the same school and we used to do things together until recently I think they have

changed. They start to have a new hobby; hanging out at frst food outlec and shopping

malls after school. They have asked me to join them numerous times but I've to turn them

down. I feel that it is a waste of time and I prefer to go back home straight away after

school as I want to study and finish my homework. I tned to advise them but they refused

to listen to me.

I still see and talk to them at school but I could sense that they try to avoid me.

They keep on talking about the things that they want to do and as always I am not included.

I am really afraid that I am going to lose their friendship as we've been friends since

primary school but at the same time I know that it is going to be very dangerous to follow

them all the time. I am afraid if their outings may lead to more dangerous activities. If they

continue to hang out everyday, their studies might also be affected. I've thought of telling

my parents about this but the problem is my parents might tell their parents. They have

wamed me not to tell their parents. If their parents find ou! I'll be in trouble as they won't

ever trust me again. I really value their friendship as we've got along fine until now. Please

advise me as to what I should do.

Concerned and confused,

Maria

Read the passage below and complete the following task.

In the hustle and bustle society we are living in today, stress is the most common

health problem. If we don't learn how to overcome stress, our lives can be destroyed by

it over time. There are many techniques to cope with stress. Different people have

diflerent techniques. You need to find one that works on you. One popular technique

used by many to get rid of sffess is of course exercise. Walking or running for 20

minutes can release endorphins which help to relieve stress. Listening to classical music

also helps as it lowers the blood pressure and brings calmness to listeners.

If you really want an excellent fieafinent for stress, sleep early and wake up early.

There are no hard and frst rules on how many hours you should sleep in a day. Some

people need eight hours or more to function properly, while some only need four to six

hours.

If stress is getting you down, examine the cause. Find out rryhat causes you to feel

stessful. Talking to friends may also help. You can also seek professional advice. Try

pouring out to your loved ones. This is a proven solution and you don't even need to

spend any money.

Remember that there is no such thing as a stress-free life because stress is always

around us €ls long as we are still alive. What we can do, however, is to develop a 'stress-

proof life and learn to overcome it.
