Since our debut issue (the Dillinger Escape Plan, October 2004), Decibel has evolved into the authoritative voice on heavy music—we match our readers’ rabid obsession with both the legendary and currently groundbreaking artists we cover. In our 12th year, Decibel isn’t just America’s only monthly metal magazine—with an array of dynamic, exclusive content and five renowned national tours in our arsenal, we’re the only ones who matter.

Reek of SatisfactionEvery month, Decibel delves into the lurid, the outlandish, the unsung. We tackle controversial issues (the relationship between metal and National Socialism) and champion the underserved (spotlighting

both women’s and the LGBTQ community’s place in metal), but still find plenty of time to tear into red meat—so to speak—and have fun (our Cannibal Corpse-headlined “zombie issue,” April 2012). Our social media presence is informative, likeable and constantly expanding—be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr or YouTube—and for the last five years, subscribers have enjoyed receiving a flexi disc with world-exclusive tunes in every issue of Decibel. Then there’s our longstanding Hall of Fame series, honoring metal milestones in the form of staggeringly comprehensive oral histories. In fact, some of our most celebrated HOFs have been captured in anthology form, one of two Decibel collections that continue to diversify and expand our reach:

[3] Choosing Death: The Revised and Expanded EditionHot on the heels of Precious Metal: Decibel Presents the Stories Behind 25 Extreme Metal Masterpieces and Brewtal Truth’s Guide to Extreme Beers: An All-Excess Pass to Brewing’s Outer Limits, Decibel has expanded its literary reach with the revised and expanded edition of editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian’s seminal Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore. Boasting 100 new pages, 50 new interviews, three new chapters and jaw-dropping throwback cover art from the legendary Dan Seagrave, this hand-numbered, limited-edition hardcover launched our Decibel Books imprint in April 2015—new titles are already in production for 2016, assuring that only print is real.

ONLINE

The WebsiteIn March 2015, decibelmagazine.com got a new coat of corpsepaint. The relaunched site is now optimized for mobile viewing and mobile traffic. The always entertaining Deciblog (updated several times a day) and a well-stocked online store are seamlessly integrated to form the most complete metal magazine website on the web.

The DeciblogBecause we don’t stop thinking about metal when the magazine goes to print, and not everyone can read the magazine at work, the Deciblog was launched in June 2007. In that time, not only has it become a destination for exclusive news, interviews and whatever else the editors can think of, but it’s evolved into a vital tool for labels looking to stream new music and premiere videos, as well as a vehicle for musicians to contribute through tour diaries, studio reports and special columns.

Nostalgia has long been one of Decibel’s greatest motivators. Our fondness for days gone by manifests in highly collectible monthly features like the Hall of Fame and our Flexi Series. At the same

time, we strive to stay on the cutting edge of technological advancements. We recently expanded our digital store to include many of our out-of-print issues—if it’s no longer available in bound printed matter form, you can finally catch up on a

variety of Decibel classics.Decibel is alternately

available via iPad, iPhone and Nook, allowing digitally-savvy international readers access to the magazine at an affordable price. Within a couple months, the magazine will be available on the Android platform as well. Not to mention Decibel advertisers enjoy thousands of extra eyes on their product each month at no additional charge.

I’m friends with a few people who write, or have written for, Decibel, but I’m not saying nice things because of that. Instead, I’m saying, ‘hey, this is a metal magazine

I could be friends with.’ And I hate a lot of people. Brandon Stosuy, pitchfork.com editor

In January 2013, we celebrated our 100th issue with a sold-out show in Philadelphia. Performances from Converge, Pig Destroyer, Municipal Waste and more were filmed and released as a limited edition DVD called Decibel’s 100th Issue Show: The Movie.

When Decibel began, back in the dark ages, it was enough just to see ugly death metal dudes in color again. Years later, like

an ever-expanding sack of rabid warthogs, the mag has grown by devouring semi-lucid rants by metal veterans, bitchy record reviews, historical Hall of Fame brilliance, useless sports junk for the real sickos, beer news and fascinating profiles not just

of bands but of readers and metal mothers. These guys set the dissonant, sustained tone for a vibrant and quarrelsome

subculture, and we’re lucky they’re so good at it. Ian Christe, bazillion points books

In 2014 Decibel released a Deluxe Edition Flexi Collector’s Box, so subscribers could store their Decibel flexis in an appropriately awesome and stylish home.

… and the stories behind their greatest records

In January 2011, the heaviest music magazine in North America got half an ounce heavier. With two explosive new tracks from Brutal Truth, Decibel launched its inimitable Flexi Series, in which loyal subscribers receive a new, ultra-limited vinyl flexi disc bound into the magazine every month. Each individual disc features exclusive music from the artists we’ve assiduously covered over a now-11-year history, spanning well over 130 issues. That means previously unreleased tracks, covers, live songs, demos, alternate takes, re-recordings and more!

This November, we celebrated the five-year anniversary of the Flexi Series, which now includes a staggering 60+ installments. Featuring metal icons as diverse as Carcass, Godflesh, Cannibal Corpse and Pallbearer—not to mention multiple sold-out editions—the Flexi Series has enjoyed a cache befitting the rarest vinyl, reselling for astronomical amounts on eBay. Even NPR has taken notice, touting us as forerunners in the rebirth of the

Since 2009, Decibel has produced unique annual Special Collector’s Editions dedicated to select genres, artists and/or periods in metal’s storied history. Created with the same standard of editorial and artistic excellence as Decibel’s monthly volumes, these ancillary products are routinely devoured by our ferocious fan base.

SPECIAL COLLECTOR’S EDITIONS

This year’s Top 100 Old-School Metal Albums of All Time issue (featuring 100 percent exclusive content) marks our seventh foray into exclusive collectible one-offs—and four of them are sold out.

Among those now-unavailable gems (except digitally!) the Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of the Decade, Black Metal Hall of Fame, and Top 100 Death and Black Albums of All Time special issues remain reader favorites, while our Thrash Metal Hall of Fame and Top 100 Doom Metal

NORTH AMERICA’S ONLY MONTHLY METAL MAGAZINE

By the time you read this, the lineup for the fifth edition of the Decibel Magazine Tour will be announced. It’s official: when it comes to heavy metal, we are the premier tour of the spring.

There’s simply no competition.

THE DECIBEL MAGAZINE TOUR

In April 2012, we launched the inaugural Decibel Magazine Tour. Featuring not just the long-awaited stateside return of Polish blackened death metal overlords Behemoth, but support from Watain, the Devil’s Blood and In Solitude, the first installment laid waste through a gargantuan 26-date North American run, culminating in a sold-out show at New York City’s Irving Plaza (capacity: 1,100). We followed that up with an equally successful sophomore installment in 2013, headlined by Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death and Immolation, plus rotating regional openers Beyond Creation, Cretin and Magrudergrind. In 2014, Decibel decimated North America with Carcass, the Black Dahlia Murder, Gorguts and Noisem, then followed that embarrassment of riches with At the Gates, Converge, Vallenfyre and Pallbearer in 2015.

“Part of Decibel’s mission is to push the

boundaries of what a metal publication is capable of doing,” explains Decibel editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian, the tour’s principal curator. “The Decibel Magazine Tour is another way to infect the mainstream with the power of the underground.”

With the help of high-profile sponsors ESP, IndieMerchStore.com, Randall and Season of Mist, the tour is positioned for even greater things in 2016. Over the first four years, 64,780 tickets have been sold, and the tour’s stranglehold will only strengthen going forward.

Check www.decibelmagazinetour.com for dates, ticket info and regular updates. And get in touch now for 2016 tour sponsorship opportunities.
