The largest state in Malaysia has, as its capital , Kuching, a small industrious town where its people lead simple lives.A visit to the Cultural Village is an eye-opener. This living museum is situated at Santubong, about 45 minutes drive from Kuching. It is a showcase of the homes of the various ethnic groups. Each native tribe has its own distinct architecture which sets the tribe apart from one another. Some houses were built round while others were built tall. Some of these houses still display the skulls of their foes. Lighting a small fire under the skulls will prevent the souls of the victims from returning to haunt their enemies.At the Rumah Panjang, there are cultural performances held twice daily at 11.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. where dancers are accompanied by songs of the rainforest. KIDS MAKE A SPLASH FOR CHARITY Some 220 young swimmers, including children with special needs, came together on Saturday to raise funds for disadvantaged children, To encourage children to play their part in helping their less fortunate peers, the neighbourhood Residents Association together with the Interact Club launched the Splashes of faith Swimathon to raise funds for some childrens homes.
