1.0 INTRODUCTION

This report gives calculation for the analysis and design of a rc pile foundation

for a 30 meter height monopole.

The dimension for this rc pile foundation is 5 meter (length) x 5 meter (width) x

0.43 meter (depth).

The rc pile foundation is designed to withstand a basic wind velocity of 120

km/hr (3 second gust speed) on the 30 meter monopole. The column of the rc

pile foundation is not designed for overturning.

The Mackintosh Probe Test report (refer to attachment) shown the number of

blows/0.3m for 5 Mackintosh Probe Points is less than 20 at level below 2.1m

depth. For this site, rc pile foundation design is considered because of worse

soil condition.

Design approach:The column is designed using the following procedure: (1) The column design charts are constructed. (2) The design axis and design ultimate moment are determined . (3) The design axial force and moment capacity is checked on the relevant design chart. (4) The procedure is repeated for each load case. (5) The critical load case is identified as the case yielding the lowest safety factor about the design axis

Through inspection: Load case 5 (90 DEGREE) is critical.

Check column slenderness:End fixity and bracing for bending about the Design axis: At the top end: Condition 4 (free). At the bottom end: Condition 1 (fully fixed). The column is unbraced.ß = 2.20 Table 3.19

Effective column height: le = ß⋅ Lo = 3.960 m

Check if the column is slender: 3.8.1.3 le/h = 3.0 < 10∴ The column is short.

Initial moments:The initial end moments about the X-X axis: M1 = Smaller initial end moment = 0.0 kNm M2 = Larger initial end moment = 0.0 kNm

The initial moment near mid-height of the column : 3.8.3.2∴ Mi = 0.4M1 + 0.6M2 ≥ 0.4M2 = 0.0 kNm
