Kerajaan Malaysia telah mengangihkan peruntukan yang besar untuk membangunkan infrastruktur di negeri Sabah dan Sarawak. Tujuan pembangunan ini adalah untuk memajukan kawasan pedalaman yang serba kekurangan. Dengan peruntukan tersebut, kerajaan berharap taraf hidup antara penduduk kaya dan miskin akan lebih seimbang.
