Read the text below and complete the following task.

Snatch thefts are on the rise. Recently, there have been cases of snatch thefts in

towns and cities. These thieves target elderly people, women and young children as

their victims.

The cases of snatch thefts are increasing due to unemployment. Many people

nowadays are jobless because they do not have the skills and qualifications to enter

the job market. As a result, they resort to the easiest means of getting money which is

to snatch and steal another person’s belongings. Another reason for snatch thefts  is the

high cost of living especially in the cities. High fuel cost and the increase in prices of

goods and utilities make people unable to cope with high living expenses.

The migration of youths from the rural villages to urban areas is another factor.

The high cost of living and non-adjustment to city life make these youths unprepared

to face the challenges of city life. With no money to survive, they steal in order to

carry on living in the city.

The influx of illegal immigrants has also caused snatch theft cases to increase.

In order to survive, these illegal immigrants rob and steal. Many innocent victims

 become their preys as they go at large in the cities stealing in broad daylight and

harming innocent citizens.

Some drug addicts become snatch thieves in order to get money for their

drugs. Their strong addiction can cause them to resort to snatching a lady’s handbag

along the streets, causing snatch theft cases to increase at an alarming rate in the cities.
