Researcher Eligibility – There is no upper limit on the number of PIs or CIs. – A project must include at least two PIs with at least one from an MRUN university and at least one from an IRU university.
– PIs must be able to demonstrate a history of collabora?on through, for example, joint publica?ons or jointly secured research grant funding.
– At least one IRU and one MRUN ECR should be included as CIs on the project.
– Projects with CIs from organisa?ons outside the IRU and MRUN are eligible for considera?on. All PI must be from the IRU or MRUN.
7
Project Eligibility – Projects should build on or extend exis?ng collabora?ve ac?vity. Projects should not seek to replicate
– previous ac?vity or fund a research programme that has already commenced.
– Projects should demonstrate a clear pathway to impact through, for example:
• Scopus or Web of Science indexed publica?ons (peer-‐reviewed journal ar?cles or scholarly monographs), or
• The poten?al to develop applica?ons for alterna?ve sources of funding at the conclusion of the project, or
• Transla?ng research into commercial or broader economic or social outcomes or improved prac?ce, or
• Building internal or external capacity.
8
• Projects should fall within one or more of the broad fields of Health, Energy and Environment.
• Projects must have a clear path to transla?on with an economic assessment of the benefits resul?ng from the project included as part of the deliverables.
9
Field of Research
Funding Limit and Dura2on • The funding applica?on must include a budget jus?fica?on. The maximum
funding amount is 60,000 Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) (approximately $20 000 Australian dollars (AUD)) per year with a maximum dura2on of three (3) years.
• Applica?ons must include budgeted expenditure in one of either MYR or AUD. Budgets should indicate the distribu?on of expenditure between Australia and Malaysia and be inclusive of any relevant sales, goods and services or other taxes which the university cannot recover – hence Australian GST is not included since Australian universi?es can recover it.
• There are no restric?ons on what expenditures funds may support though all planned expenditures must be included in the proposed project budget. Equipment may not account for more than 40% of the total.
• Funds will be disbursed to the administering university of the PIs. • Funds will be disbursed on an annual basis, with con?nued project funding
dependent on successful progress assessed through an annual report.
10
Selec2on • Completed funding applica?ons are to be sent to the IRU
Secretariat by email for processing ([email protected]) by Monday 2 March 2015.
• An administra?on and selec?on panel with representa?on from the IRU and MRUN will assess applica?ons in line with the criteria above in determining suitability for funding.
• The administra?on and selec?on panel may request addi?onal informa?on from applicants in determining the suitability of an applica?on. Modifica?ons to applica?ons will otherwise not be accepted arer the closing date.
• The administra?on and selec?on panel may elect to award a lower funding amount to that ini?ally requested.
