SULIT

1. Read the poem Leisure below and answer the questions that follow.

(a) What is the tone of the poem?

(1 mark)

(b) Where are the sheep and cows? What are they doing?

LeisureWhat is this life, if full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughsAnd stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,Streams full of stars, like stars at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance. And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth canEnrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,We have no time to stand and stare.

William Henry Davies

Write a summary on why music is important to us.Your summary must:*not be more than 60 words, including the 10 words given below*be in continuous writing (not note form)*be written in one paragraph

Begin your summary as follows:

Music has many uses and it does not just provide…

Music plays an important role in our life. Most of the time, we would relate music to entertainment. This is because we hear it on the radio and television every day. However, there are more uses than just providing entertainment. Music is believed to be able to improve a learning situation. For example, younger children remember colours, numbers and days of the week better with the help of songs. They also learn language better with the help of music. Some students at university level even find it easier to memorise facts by singing them.

Learning to play music can also help to better the eye-hand coordination as well as improve the finger movement. Playing the drums and piano, for example, requires good eye-hand coordination to keep the melody and tempo of the music. It takes a lot of practice to master the skill. Many athletes exercise by following the beat of the music. This helps them to concentrate on their training.

Listening to music may help us emotionally. If we are frightened and tensed, music can help us feel more relaxed. It is not unusual to find music played in hospitals and even in operating theatres where doctors work to save lives. Playing music to babies in the womb is said to be able to stimulate their brain, thus producing intelligent babies when they are born.
