Article: To Whom We Should Get The Advice From, A Doctor Or Pharmacist?
Media : China Press, 5 July 2012
With reference to the recent complaint "To Whom We Should Get The Advice From, A Doctor
Or Pharmacist?" that was published in China Press on 5 July 2012, I would like to thank Mr.
Chang for his concern regarding this matter.
The Pharmaceutical Services Division, Ministry of Health would very much appreciate if the
complainant could furnish us further details for us to investigate the issue and take appropriate
actions to rectify the problem.
Hence, we would like to advise Mr. Chang to provide us his full name, name of the hospital or
health clinic he visited and medications prescribed for us to pursue the matter. Mr. Chang is
welcomed to contact Pharmaceutical Services Division at 03-78413200 or email us at
pharmacy [email protected].
In a public health setting, pharmacist and doctor have different roles but they work together as a
healthcare team. It is the current practice that doctors prescribe and pharmacists dispense the
medications. No change or adjustments are made without prior consultation with the prescriber.
The pharmacist may advise the doctor on the needs to change and adjust the patient's
medications while at the same time ensuring patients obtain the appropriate medications over a
specified period.
