LIPATAN SEJARAH SEKOLAH Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Idris Shah (SMKTIS) telah siap di bina pada bulan Januari 1966. Pada asalnya, sekolah ini diberi nama Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kapar. SMKTIS terletak di tengah-tengah kepesatan pembangunan pekan Kapar, iaitu dipersimpangan antara Jalan Kapar dan Jalan Hamzah Alang. Ia berada kira-kira 16km dari Bandar Diraja Klang, Selangor. Sekolah ini tememulakan sesi persekolahan pertamanya pada Januari 1966. Seramai 254 orang pelajar (164 orang pelajar lelaki dan 90 orang pelajar perempuan) dan 11 orang guru telah menjadi warga pertama SMKTIS dengan diketuai oleh Encik Alias bin Abu Rahman sebagai pengetua pertamanya. Pada 8 Mei 1968, SMKTIS telah dirasmikan oleh DYTM Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Idris Shah ( kini DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ). Dengan perasmian itu, sekolah ini telah ditukar namanya dari Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kapar kepada Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Idris Shah, iaitu sempena nama baginda. Sejarah akademik SMKTIS bermula pada tahun 1967 apabila Peperiksaan SRP (Sijil Rendah Pelajaran ) yang pertama diadakan dan diikuti peperiksaan SPM yang pertama pada tahun 1976. SMKTIS hanya menetapkan pelajar- pelajar lelaki, selain beberapa orang pelajar perempuan yang mengambil jurusan sains. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Idris Shah (SMKTIS) telah siap di bina pada

Bandar Diraja Klang, Selangor. Sekolah ini tememulakan sesi persekolahan pertamanya pada

Januari 1966. Seramai 254 orang pelajar (164 orang pelajar lelaki dan 90 orang pelajar

perempuan) dan 11 orang guru telah menjadi warga pertama SMKTIS dengan diketuai oleh

Encik Alias bin Abu Rahman sebagai pengetua pertamanya.

Pada 8 Mei 1968, SMKTIS telah dirasmikan oleh DYTM Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku

Idris Shah ( kini DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ). Dengan perasmian itu, sekolah ini telah

ditukar namanya dari Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kapar kepada Sekolah Menengah

Kebangsaan Tengku Idris Shah, iaitu sempena nama baginda.

Sejarah akademik SMKTIS bermula pada tahun 1967 apabila Peperiksaan SRP (Sijil Rendah

Pelajaran ) yang pertama diadakan dan diikuti peperiksaan SPM yang pertama pada tahun

1976. Jurusan sastera Tingkatan 4 dimulai pada tahun 1979 jurusan sains dimulakan.

SMKTIS pernah memisahkan antara pelajar lelaki dengan pelajaran perempuan, iaitu

apabila SMK Perempuan Kapar dibuika pada tahun 1988 dan semua pelajar perempuan

bersama-sama beberepa orang guru telah dipindahkan ke sekolah berkenaan. SMKTIS hanya

menetapkan pelajar-pelajar lelaki, selain beberapa orang pelajar perempuan yang mengambil

jurusan sains. Bagaimanapun, akibat beberapa masalah seperti kemerosotan disiplin dan

pencapaian akademik, Pegawai Pendidikan Daerah Klamg telah mengarahkan pengambilan

semula pelajar-pelajar perempuan mulai tahun 1998.

SMKTIS telah menyambut Jubil Perak semperns ulang tahun ke 25 tahun

penubuhannya pada tahun 1991. Pada tahun 2008, bilangan pelajar SMKTIS telah mencapai

2375 orang pelajar dan bilangan guru 141 orang. SMKTIS menjadi sekolah yang mempunyai

pelajar ketiga terbanyak di daerah Klang.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Idris Shah dikategorikan luar Bandar di dalam

daerah Klang. Pelajar-pelajar sekolah ini dating dari berbagai latar belajkang, iaitu anak-anak

pekebun kecil, pekerja ladang, peniaga kecil, pekerja kilang, dan sehagian kecil merupakan

anak-anak kakitangan kerajaan dan swasta yang berjawatan.

Sekolah ini agak unik kerana mempunyai pelajar-pelajar dari komposisi kaum yang agak

seimbang, iaitu 44.19% pelajar Melayu, 20.81% pelajat Cina dan 35.00% pelajar India. Pelajar-

pelajar ini dating dari pelbagai latar belakang keluarga. Dari segi jantina pula, lebih ¾ atau

76.97% pelajar adalah lekai dan 23.09% sahaj pelajar perempuan.

SMKTIS berada dalam kategori sekolah yang mempunya pencapaian akademaik yang

sederhana rendah, berdasarkan keputusan-keputusan peperiksaan awam (SPM dan PMR)

sejak beberapa tahun lalu. Bagaimanapun, pihak pengurusan sekolah tetap sedaya-upaya

berusaha untuk meningakatkan pencapai akademik sekolah ini, dengan sokongan padu

daripada Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah dan Jabatan Pelajaran Selangor.

Meskipun pencapaian akademik SMKTIS sentiasa pada kedudukan sederhana rendah,

namun SMKTIS masih boleh berbangga kerana telah beberapa kali melahirkan pelajar_pelajar

yang memperolehi 12 A1, 11 A1 dalam peperiksaan SPM.

Berbanding pencapaian akademiknya yang sederhana rendah, sekolah ini telah banyak

menempa nama dalam bidang kokurikulum sejak beberapa tahun kebelakangan ini, terutama

dalam bidang olahraga, permainan dan kawat kaki unit beruniform. Malah terdapat pelajar yang

berjaya mengukir nama hingga menjadi wakil Malyasia ke peringkat antarabangsa.

Berdasarkan kejayaan demi kejayaan yang dipeolehi dalam bidag kokurikulum, terutamanya

bidang olahraga, maka SMKTIS telah dipilih sebagai “Sekolah Berwatak Olahraga” peringkat

daerah Klang

I was started my teaching practicum on 24th January 2011in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan

Tengku Idris Shah, Kapar(SMKTIS).I feel so stress and cannot imagine how could I will carry

out myself to be an effective teacher and contribute well in this school. Starting form first day

until my final day I have decided to be an active perform teacher in academic and co-curriculum

for this school. The school has a conducive environment. The school has a lot of facilities for

students such as library, classrooms, computer labs, science labs, and teacher’s canteen and a

huge field. The first day of my teaching practicum I met the school Principle Tuan Haji Najib Bin

Ayob to report as a practical teacher for three months’ also met Pn.Halijah to get my timetable.

The first week I get my entire task as a teacher such as syllabus, yearly plan and students

name list. The school was very busy with annual sports and I also have to contribute my part as

a teacher there. One of the scariest issues for teachers is dealing with confrontational students

in the classroom. While confrontations do not occur every day in every classroom, most if not all

secondary school teachers will have to deal with a student who is acting belligerent and

speaking in out in their classroom. So as a new teacher I learnt to control the students during

my class. The students who are making noise I came with easy question which make them

think. If they cannot answer my question they will keep quiet and concentrate during class. I use

the technique of 'probing question' to enhance students understanding and enable students to

answer questions, and also called some of the students in front of the class to answer

questions. As a teacher I also followed several classroom rules for teacher.

I always go to the classroom on time and will be waiting outside until the previous lesson

teacher finish her part. So when the students see me they take out their books and are ready for

my class. I use a clear voice projection and language easily understood by students during

teaching and learning activities. My voice always loud and clear which made my points able to

understand by students. Beside that I use to give relevant and a lot of example during my class.

In addition the students also give their example based on their understanding. To ensure

whether they could understand the lesson I had question and answer session which I always

have during my classes in university. I always had a good eye contact with the student during

lesson because some student likes looking at me but they will talk to their friends. To avoid this

kind of teaching problem I had eye contact as my one of method.

During my first week of practicum I found the school has different culture. The students will

carry their bags for a whole day. Example they will carry their bags during recess. When they

wanted to go science labs or any other places they will carry their bags with them. There were

majority male students compare to female students. This is because if they left their bags in the

classroom they found their things are missing so to avoid this kind of problem the management

decided and apply the culture which is workout and there were no missing or lost. This culture is

something new for me.

In addition, I also used several types of teaching aids during my practicum. A teaching aid

is tools used by teachers which help the students on improve reading and other skills. I used

mahjong papers, manila cards, color papers, newspaper articles and also pamphlets. Every day

I will use teaching aid for my teaching purposes. Firstly the student was surprised because this

is first time they study used with mahjong paper. And there is no any teacher use this kind of

aids.Bring required materials every day is very vital for every teacher. During the lesson I asked

anyone to read the definition. It is because the poor performing students can improve their

reading skill. Beside teaching and learning activities I also was helping them to improve on their

skill. If the students can read I will say some encouragement word such as good keeps it up or

good try. They became very proud of themselves. During the next class they will promote their

self to read before I asked them.

I also brought newspaper articles for one of my lesson and I distribute to them to categorize.

They felt this was new experience study by using newspaper cuttings. The students in this

school are very problematic. This school is one of the problematic schools in Klang district.

Always have discipline problems. So I have to be very wise in all matters. To attract their

attention I have to use this kind of material during my teaching practicum. In addition I gave

related exercises to the students after the lesson. I also gave additional work to take back home

which help the student to have more understanding. But some students would not do their

works properly. For this kind of problem I reported to discipline teacher because these students

always absent to my class not only my call also to all the classes. Then only they will finish their

works properly. During teaching and learning activity I also had group discussion with the

students.

Group discussions are a very positive form of teaching methods because the students can

get ideas from the entire groups. First I will give them title to do in their group and walk around

the groups. I guide them to do their work.

Lastly I ask them to present their group work in front of the class. After presentation I gave

comment on their work. I also gave additional information to gain knowledge. This gave them

different experience and they can remember the points. During question and answer session

they able to answer me based on their group work.

Besides teaching at morning I also had addition class for economic at evening. I did extra

class with two classes after get permission from the school management and also parents.

During extra class the student’s attendance was quite bad. Only few numbers of students came

to the class. In extra class I gave topic 1‘s exercise and discuss with the students. Those who

came to the extra class able to pass my subject during test 1.The school welcomed and

appreciate me for doing the extra class for the students. Even though the students are

problematic they listen to my instruction and never bring any problem during extra class.

This three month of teaching practicum I learned a lot and gain new experiences. Even

though the students are problematic but they can perform well in co-curriculum. But most of the

teachers shared their ideas with me. Even though I got tired after the school was very satisfied

because I can gain my experiences during my teaching practicum. I was really graceful because

I went to SMK Tengku Idris Shah,Kapar to do my practicum.

During my teaching practicum I found the meaning for teacher. A teacher is a person who

provides schooling for pupils and student’s .The role of teacher is often formal and ongoing,

carried out by way of occupation or profession at a school or other place of formal education.

Besides teaching I also knew that every teacher should contribute for other activity such as

co-curicular.However it is as a practical teacher I myself involved in every activity.

The school has one culture which is all the students will carry their bags all the time. If they

wanted to go toilet still carry the bag. It is because when the students left their bags in the

classroom they found their things are missing. The school can have any other step to overcome

this issue. The students can lock the class before go for recess. Give the key at office and

before the recess finish the class leader can get the key from office. Other hand they also can

increase the number of prefects to observe the class during recess time. The number of student

is quite high but their achievement in academic is low. The teachers in that school are good but

sometimes they fail to be a good teacher. This is because during the lesson got teacher doing

their own work in laptop. Before blame the students we as a teacher should know the classroom

rules and must follow them.

Once the teacher gives the exercise they started to do their own work. They do not care for

the students. So this kind of problems the teacher should take the action by following classroom

rules. They teacher had studied the rules during they became a student at university. We should

aware of this. The next is classroom environment was bad in the school. The classes are big but

it is clean and I found the notice board is empty. The teacher only asks them to do but they

never check it. Every day the teacher will go to the class but they would not bother about the

classroom environment. Most of the classroom got only little number of windows. I heard during

assembly PK Hem said the window not yet fixed even though the student paid for it. The class

teacher not yet takes the action. So the teacher has to take further action to make their class

environment conducive for the students and teachers.

From the analysis made by the school I found the school’s academic have to improve more.

The school should arrange extra classes to the students. The teachers should take initiative it

have the extra class. Because this year there are two students got 11 A’s for the SPM .Also 15

students get best result. It really made the school to be proud. The school one of the

problematic school in Klang district but they can produce best students in district level.

So the teacher’s part is high for this achievement. But nowadays teachers are only teaching

for exam purposes. School students are the expectation of our nation, so we must provide the

maximum knowledge. So I will be an active teacher to provide effective knowledge to students. .

Always most of the teachers will teach with using textbooks and give exercises form the text

book. So it made the student felt bored during lesson. So I decided to bring the students to

computer lab but the school does not allow me to use it. They said if there is any problem I

should be responsible. They strongly disagree require in order to have the class there. So I

cannot bring the students to computer lab.

It is because the students are not well mannered. If this is continuously happened how the

students get to know about computer. Most of the students do not know the functions of

computer. The school management should take any action to overcome this issue. Besides

teaching, classroom management, classroom rules, teaching method I also had wonderful

experience in co-curriculum activities. I have been trained the students for the marching

competition in school level. When school time I involved in this activities so it helped me to

trained the students. I got organized an activity for ranger girls on one Saturday. I learned how

to make the student to involve in activity. I also got to know how to attract their attention during

the activity.

I really was disappointed with student marks because they cannot get A for my subject. The

Panitia of Economic set the question paper. She prepared the paper like mid-year exam which

made the students unable to answered question paper consists of 50 multiple choice questions

and only given an hour. The paper also had calculation and the students got no enough time to

answer. I think the teacher should give 30 multiple choice questions with time period on hour. It

is only test so teacher should set the paper quite easy. The reflection of this test some students

do not want to take economic and they said it is very hard to do. Also I get know how to conduct

school exams and exam paper corrections.

In addition the management will have the meeting every week. They suddenly will announce

the meeting. They sometimes would not announce earlier and it leads to problem for teachers.

The management should fix a day in a week which will be comfortable for all the teachers. For

example every Wednesday the meeting will be held in bilik gerakan. It will easier for all teachers

and there all teachers able to attend the meeting on time.

During my three month practicum I gain lot of ideas. At the same time I can experience who

is the teacher in daily life. I really thank to SMK Tengku Idris Shah to give me a golden

opportunity to do my practicum.
