During the fifty years of excellence and filled with various events, TNB's as the country
leader in electricity industry had successfully shaped the development of various
complex technologies and move all people, land, water, air and natural resources in the
form of which were hard to imagine. Mineral gas in Terengganu coast has lighted
houses in Kuala Lumpur; protected rivers in Cameron Highlands flow across the
mountain range to generate electricity for urban areas and villages in the West Coast;
the current of the upstream rivers in this country are captured by dams in Kenyir, Bersia,
Kenering and Chenderoh to bring the wonders of electricity to the villages and cities
which are still lagging behind in terms of development in a country that increasingly
advanced. Native children of this country are integrating all the world's sophisticate
technologies to drive the powerful energy generating engine in Prai, Paka, Port Dickson,
Klang, Kapar, Malacca, and Pasir Gudang.
Peace and war
War period between the years 1942 to 1945 had caused many generating electricity
turbines were neglected and suffered destruction. In 1945, the country returned to
peace and the recovery process led to an extraordinary increase in demand of
electricity supply. Electricity is an infrastructure and like other infrastructures as well,
requires careful planning. The planners eventually had developed a national electricity
development strategy which contains three major programs. First, a new and modern
power station will specially built for Central Selangor in Klang; second, the introduction
of Malaya Grid and third, conducting an in-depth research about the possibility of
developing the hydroelectric potential in this country

Formation of a Board
Notes on the history of electricity supply was actually had gone through a new era with
a larger scale that may have never thought by the planners before the war era. The
increasing demand cannot be addressed only with a modest commitment, small capital,
and lack less technical input. Large-scale plans and a larger capital from abroad must
be injected and foreign technical experts need to be negotiated to offer their expertise
service. Indeed, the time has arrived to establish a Board.
In 1948, a proposal to establish a Central Electricity Board had been submitted.
Specifically, the establishment of the Board is to implement three major projects
planned by the Electricity Department following the establishment of the department in
April 1946 that is, Connaught Bridge Electric-generate station, Cameron Highlands
Hydroelectric Projects and the development of National Grid. To meet the demand for
electricity by the factory and tin mines operation and to meet the social and economic
aspirations of the people, the rate of energy generating in the country should be
doubled in a period shorter than a decade.
A bill had been submitted to the Federal Government. The bill contained three sections.
The first part was related to the constitution, functions and powers of the Board. The
second part discussed the financial allocation and the third was related to the power of
the Board to take over private companies that supply electricity.
The Bill faced various problems before it was approved. Laws relating to land, tax
exemptions, laws relating to water, and appeals from the Central Electricity Boards
Junior Officers Union (JOU) must first be scrutinized and considered
