Matlamat Menguasai beberapa teori dan kaedah dalam bidang fonetik, fonologi, morfologi, sintaksis dan semantik supaya dapat menerapkan penguasaan tersebut ketika mengkaji bahasa. Mampu memahami beberapa ciri dan fungsi bahasa dalam mengembangkan pendapat secara ilmiah sama ada pada tahap keperihalan pemerhatian, keperihalan pemerian mahupun pada keperihalan penjelasan terhadap hakikat bahasa.
Hasil Pembelajaran
Aras Rendah: 30% -Memperjelaskan konsep linguistik, teori dan kriteria ilmu linguistik dan mengenali sejarah perkembangan linguistik.
Aras Sederhana : 40% - Menganalisis data mengikut bidang-bidang tertentu dalam ilmu linguistik - Mengenal pasti struktur dalaman bahasa seperti fonologi, morfologi, semantik, dan sintaksis .
Aras Tinggi: 30% - Menghasilkan justifikasi hubungan linguistik dengan bidang ilmu yang lain, umpamanya sastera, sosiologi, psikologi, sejarah, geografi, politik, komunikasi, pendidikan dan antropologi.
Kandungan Modul - Konsep asas (fonetik, fonologi, morfologi, sintaksis, semantik dan wacana) - Definisi bahasa, kepelbagaian bahasa/dialek, kekeluargaan dan taburan bahasa dan pemaparan
tajuk-tajuk penting dalam linguistik dan penerapannya kepada Bahasa Melayu. - Meninjau perkembangan linguistik di Eropah, Amerika, India dan Arab serta perkaitannya dengan
perkembangan linguistik Bahasa Melayu.

Aims This module aims to ensure students master a number of theoretical and methodological aspects in phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantic, so they can apply the knowledge over linguistic research. This module also aims to disseminate the comprehension of language criteria and language function as part of fostering their academic evaluation at various levels including observation, interpretation and even description of language phenomena.
Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module, a student will be expected to be able to:
Lower order : 30% - Clarify concepts in linguistic studies, linguistic theories and criteria, and the history and development of linguistics.
Middle order : 40% - Analyse data based on specific linguistic discipline. - Identify internal language structures such as phonology, morphology, semantic and syntax.
Higher order: 30% - Produce justifications for the relationship between linguistics with other disciplines such as literature, sociology, psychology, history, geography, politics, communication, education and anthropology.
Module Content - Basic concepts (Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantic and Discourse studies) - Definition of language, dialects and variety of language, kinship system, language distribution, important topics of linguistic studies and its application on Malay Language. - Review on the development of linguistic studies in Europe, America, India and Arab, and its relationship to the Malay linguistics development.
