    SK Putrajaya Presint 11(1) is one of elite primary school in Malaysia. From my observation on the

    first day at this school, I found that they does not have any bell ring. So every teacher and student must

    be alert at the time by themselves.

    Monday school session start with student assembly. All teacher, staff and student will gathered

    at assembly point before 7.30 a.m every Monday. After singing national anthem and state song duty

    teacher will deliver speech and weekly report. This week assembly is a bit special because, the

    headmaster had launched Kibaran Jalur Gemilang for national days celebration. He also emphasize

    that this school going to be visited by Thailand Education Officer.

    After recess, all SBE Training Teacher was given short briefing by the headmaster, Mr. Suhaimi

    Bin Ali Ahmad. He briefly explain the culture of the school, the background and rules. He also divided us

    to be a mentee to few English teacher to complete our task. After that we need to report ourselves to

    Putrajaya Education Department at Presint 16.

    August 2013 (Tuesday)

    On this school, I learned that punctuality and discipline is very important. Teacher should show

    better discipline to student. We was reproved by headmaster about coming late to schools. We accept

    our mistake and promise to do better next time.

    On the second day, the first thing I do after Daily assembly is go to teacher room and looking for

    my mentor. My mentor is Mr. Meor Mohammad Shazilli B. Johan Ariffin. From my interview with him on

    this morning, I found that his age was 53 years old and had 30 years of teaching experiences. Although

    his highest qualification only Diploma in TESL, but his long experience in teaching English in various of

    primary school make him one of the excellent English teacher in the school.

    At this moment he was teaching year three and year four student. He was exposes to many

    academic courses and recently he involve actively in Cambridge Native Speaker Program by British

    Council. He explain that Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah KSSR is totally different from Kurikulum

    Berasaskan Sekolah (KBSR). Now standard one student had more active learning in class. They had

    more activities such as singing, reading, discussion, drawing, listening and art creative. They also given

    more worksheet to be done at home.

    I also manage to get his permission to entered his class for observation and complete my SBE

    task. He was teaching two year three classes which is 3 Beta and 3 Sigma and one year four class which

    is 4 Fedora.

    Today observation is at School Resource Center with 3 Sigma. My mentor explain that everyclass was provided with two period (1 hour) every week to have NILAM Program. Every student need to

    read books during this period and write short review from their reading. From the information that I

    gain, at the end of the class teacher need to check and give signature to validated the student works.

    Once a year, student who read a lot of book and recorded in NILAM book will be rewarded as NILAMs

    Date: 21th August 2013 (Wednesday)

    On the third day of doing SBE I focus more my observation on school environment, canteen and

    co-curriculum activities in the evening. Today I have to monitor my mentor class with 3 Beta. Student of

    3 Beta is smarter than 3 Sigma. They have higher discipline and contribute actively in the class. When

    Mr. Meor asked them question, they will raised up quickly their hand and try to answer the question.

    Today lesson is about writing Diary. The lesson is carried out based on Year 3 English Text Book which

    was provided by Ministry of Education. They activity carried out in class during the lesson include

    speaking and reading skills. Mr Meor also related the article in the textbook in real life experience to

    make the learning more fun. The Dairy Article is about visiting Zoo. A few student was selected to tell

    their previous experience visiting zoo. Mr Meor aslo give task to start write dairy every day for thewhole week and present by sharing their experience to the whole class next week.

    In the class, I note down all the activities carried on, classroom management and the teaching

    technique that he applied. I found out that in every class, before start new lesson after the previous

    lesson teacher who entered that time will ask student to clean up their classroom first. They need to

    pick up all rubbish, arrange the table and clear all book and stationary from their desk. This was very

    good so that student can start new lesson in conducive and clean environment.

    In the evening, the school co-curricular activities are conducted every Wednesday evening from

    2.30 to 4.30 p.m. Firstly all students will assemble at assembly point according to their uniform units for

    attendance checking. All students are requested to wear their uniform according their respective

    uniform units. After taking attendance, the commandant in-charge which is co-curriculum teacher will

    conducts short marching parade. Soon they will be separate to their units place to conduct their own

    activities. These activities will develop their cognitive skill; enhance teamwork, creativity and cooking

    skills.

    Date: 22th August 2013 (Thursday)

    Today, my focus is on learning subject, lesson, and time table and teacher jobs perspective. First

    I get permission from my mentor Mr. Meor to enter another English class to get more exposure about

    teaching technique that he use and observe how he manage the class discipline. I also get some

    photocopy of the teacher time table and lesson plan. I also manage to get some more information about

    the teacher jobs perspective from other teachers when having conversation with them in staffroom.

    Beside teaching student, teacher had many other responsibilities to mold student as human being.

    From my observation of KSSR class which being conducted by the school English teacher, I found

    that the new curriculum module emphasizes more the teaching and learning technique being use. Its

    mean that, the teacher had to be creative to deliver the content of the syllabus in different teaching

    technique like song, art and others. So VAK learning style will be full fill by the teacher.

    Mr Meor had English class with 4 Fedora today. The lesson of the day is giving direction. The

    student are eager to learn since this topic was very interesting. Mr Meor also ask few student to come

    out and performed as he directed. The task is easy such as Go straight, turn left, walk along and few

    more direction. Student really enjoyed in the class. This method will emphasize Kinestatic learner.

    Learning by experience will give them more understanding. Mr Meor also told them about some major

    mistake in giving direction which widely used by Malaysian citizen. For example is go stand whichactually is make a U-turn or reverse. Mr. Meor also give a few tips on road safety to the student

    such as wear seat-belt while in car, watch left and right before crossing and seek for signboard for

    direction.

    In the evening we had teacher meeting about tomorrow events which is Hari Raya Celebration.

    Tomorrow after 9.30 all teacher and student will gathered at assembly point with all their food to have

    food festive and Raya celebration. In the meeting I was been assign to prepare table and chair for

    teacher booth. Tomorrow dress code is Baju Raya.

    August 2013 (Friday)

    On the last day of SBE, I spend most of the time in preparing and enjoying myself with student

    during the Raya Celebration Ceremony. All student bring their own food and drinks. Teacher have

    divided them into booth according to their class. It was enjoyable moments for student. I could see the

    happiness and joy in their eye. There were various choice of foods such as cake, noodle, spaghetti, satay

    and others that was bring by student.

    Teacher also enjoy themselves eating and sharing experience with each other. This celebration

    can foster the relationship among SKPP11/1 members. After the celebration we see the headmaster to

    get our report and attendance and also thanked him for giving us opportunity to do our task in his

    school.

    School Based Experience Report Essay

    Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 11 (1) is one of 10 schools in Putrajaya which also among

    the top elite primary school in Malaysia. During second School Based Experience, I was giving task to

    observe and identify the learning theories that being apply in English lesson. To complete the task, the

    headmaster Mr Suhaimi had introduce me to Mr. Meor as mentor to guide me in completing the task

    and giving all information that I need. Mr. Meor had 27 years of experience in teaching English and he

    had been teacher for 30 years. His qualification is only Diploma in TESL but the long experience in

    teaching make him one of best English teacher in this school. He was teaching year 3 and year 4 student.

    Along the week I had given opportunities to enter and observe few of his class. The class that I have

    observe is 3 Beta. 3 Beta is considered as second class in year 3 and have 22 students in this class.

    Upon entered the class, student will stand-up and great the teacher. Then Mr. Meor asked the

    student to clean up their class. Student need to pick up all rubbish around them, arrange the chair and

    table properly and keep all books and their belonging in table so that they can start lesson in clean and

    conducive environment. Then he will ask the student about their doing, their health and their mood. Mr.

    Meor will find out are all his student are doing well on that day before he start a lesson. He also asked

    whether his student eat for breakfast or not, if any student hungry at the moment Mr. Meor will give a

    bread for him. This method is equal to humanist theory which emphasize by Abraham Maslow.

    Maslows hierarchy emphasize the most fundamental and basic need is important to be fulfill as it will

    act as motivation to boost up student mood in learning. Psychological need is very important because

    motivation is derived from each students needs. From Mr Meor doing, all student in the class will feel

    that themselves is being caring, loved and belong to the class.

    On the class that I observe, the topic on that day is about giving direction. Firstly Mr. Meor will

    explain about the learning outcome to the classes then he will ask student to bring-out English text book

    as reference to the topic of the day. The topic they learned on that day is writing dairy. The article given

    in the text book is about visiting National Zoo. Mr. Meor prefer student to read together with him. He

    usually use the term Repeat after me to ensure that student able to read with correct pronunciationand grammar. Then he asked group by group of student to read the article and finally he choose some

    student as representative to go in front of the class and read the article loudly. If the student make

    pronunciation mistake, he will correct it immediately. This teaching method will help auditory learner

    type and develop speaking skill and self-esteem of the student.

    After that, Mr. Meor shared a few general knowledge about National Zoo. He told the student

    about the animal in the zoo, the fees and the animal show that visitor can watch when goes to the zoo.

    Then he asked some student who have visiting zoo to share their experience to the class. He always

    praise student for sharing their experience. I could see that the learning theory that being applied by Mr.

    Meor is Behaviorism. Behaviorist theory happen when student able to respond by teacher stimulus. In

    this term, Mr. Meor general knowledge act as stimulus to student for them to get the idea and present a

    better response. According to Skinner, behaviorist theory which based on the fundamental idea believe

    that behaviors that are reinforced will tend to continue, while behaviors that are punished will

    eventually end. Mr. Meor apply this as well, he tend not to punish student event they make mistake. He

    will correct their mistake by giving advice and guidance. For example, Mr. Meor does not punished

    student who does not bring English textbook to his class whereas, he advise them to bring it every day

    as it was the key to gain a lot of information. This method can shape student behavior to be moreconscious on the next time. The reason is behaviorist theory emphasize that student will remember well

    from what they had experience.

    The textbook also give task for student do draw some animal that can be seen in the zoo. In fact

    of drawing, Mr. Meor want his student to make a role play or act and make the sound of animal that

    they could see when visiting to zoo. Student really enjoy the role play, they making sound and act to

    represent the animal. One by one student perform the act and the rest of the class will guess what

    animal their friend present. The learning that being apply at this state is cognitivism. Cognitivism theory

    emphasize more on the inner mental activities which includes thinking, memory, knowing and problem-

    solving. The student come with knowledge, skills and related experience to the learning situation. For

    example in this class role play activity the cognitive development stage that being use is intuitive.

    Intuitive or pre-operational make student thought more flexible and the memory and imagination begin

    to play as part of the learning. This will make the student more creative. As the result, student of 3 Beta

    able to use the experience and knowledge from the past and come out new idea to make role plays of

    certain animal in the class.

    Mr. Meor also manage to maintain classroom discipline. From my observation different type of

    teaching style make student enjoy the lesson very well. From reading, to role play, to writing and

    answering question and finally drawing. Various teaching method also give advantage to student

    because every student has different learning style wish is visual, auditory or kinestatic (VAK). Mr. Meor

    also give some homework to his student. First they need to draw animal that usually can be seen in zoo

    as mention in the textbook. Secondly Mr. Meor want his student to develop creativity more beyond the

    textbook. So, he asked his student to start writing their own diaries. So student can write anything about

    their previous experience.

    As conclusion, I realize that each of learning theory have their own advantage and important inlearning process. It depend on teacher how to apply them in class. This learning theory can be guideline

    for teacher to create better lesson plan and be more creative in teaching. Different type of teaching

    style may result different understanding and thinking skill of students.
