A science teacher has to understand the requirements of the science curriculum and choose teaching and learning resources and appropriate strategies to deliver the lesson content. Then, the teacher has to prepare a lesson plan to carry out the lesson. This task requires students to : TASK 1 – Concept map and graphic organizers (16%) 1. Collect information on a selected science topic and construct a concept map. 2. Summarise information on appropriate teaching strategies to teach the selected science topic in appropriate graphic organizers. TASK 2 – Daily Lesson Plan 1 (7%) & Plan 2 (7%) 1. Prepare a daily lesson plan using the Needham s Five Phases Constructivist Model. 2. Write a critical reflection on the lesson plan.

Detailed Requirements for Coursework

TASK 1 – Concept map and graphic organizers (16%)

1. In pairs, choose one science topic from the the Primary Science Curriculum. Collect information from at least three different types of resources on the content, common misconceptions and appropriate teaching strategies to teach the topic.

2. Construct a concept map to show the related concepts in the selected science topic.

3. Summarise all the information on the common misconceptions and appropriate teaching strategies in appropriate graphic organizers.

TASK 2 – Daily Lesson Plan 1 (7%) & Plan 2 (7%)

1. In pairs, prepare a detailed daily lesson plan suitable for a sixty minute lesson on a selected science topic from the Primary School Science Curriculum using the Needham’s Five Phases Constructivist Model.

The lesson plan must show the appropriate format which include appropriate learning outcomes, pre-requisite knowledge, scientific skills, thinking skills, scientific attitudes and values and list of materials required for the lesson. You should also include at least one teaching aid or resource and the assessment procedure to assess pupils’ comprehension of the lesson.

1. Individually, describe the strength and weaknesses of the lesson plan and give suggestions for improvement.

No duplication of assignment from other coursework is allowed.Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.Include a reference list of the sources of information using the APA format.Your work should be type written with double spacing and font Arial size 12.The cover page should have the following information.

You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late submission will be downgraded to the next grade.

A good assignment should show:

1. Information from at least three different types of relevant resources2. Concept map that shows clear relationships between the concepts and graphic organizers that show clear and precise explanations and justifications of the required information. 3. Detailed lesson plan that focuses on the integration of scientific knowledge, skills and

attitudes using Needham’s Five Phases Constructivist Model with appropriate activities for eachphases of the lesson, teaching and learning resources including at least one assessment procedure.

4. In-depth reflection of the lesson plan.5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
